Windermere "Among the Lakes"

The town of Windermere lies amid Lake Bessie, Lake Down, lake Butler, and Wauseon Bay (which is part of Lake Butler). These lakes are the headwaters of the Butler Chain of Lakes, designated Outstanding Florida Waters in 1983, which drain south into the Cypress Creek drainage basin, and eventually to the Everglades.

Windermere
By Percy R. Jenks

I've packed the tackle boxes,
And laid the rods away,
My holiday is over now,
I'm leaving in a day
For the north where home is calling.
Where there is work to do.
But Windermere, dear Windermere,
How I shall long for you.

The sand paths thru the pine woods,
The tang of clearing smoke,
The days when the sun shone brightly,
The days when the rain clouds broke,
The friends I have made (may I keep them)
Who always will be to me
Dearest of all of a time to live
Ever in memory.

The lakes with the sun aglitter,
Or purple flecked with white,
The gorgeous glow of the sunset,
The moonlit hush at night,
In the far of northern city,
I shall close my eyes and see
Thy dear and beautiful vision,
Forever home to me.
